This course will offer participants the opportunity to learn how psychoanalytic theories can be applied to couples therapy. Couples therapists will present different points of view, including the classical and object relations approach, the Tavistock model, and the Systems model. The differences between individual therapy and couples therapy will be elaborated, particularly in terms of transference and counter-transference and termination. Readings will be suggested in the first class. Discussion of participants’ cases throughout is strongly encouraged.
