Psychotherapy is a complex, shifting, neurobiological exchange between two human organisms, a brain-to-brain dance. How we “dance” is determined by early attachment experiences. The unconscious body and emotional memories of these early preverbal exchanges determine patterns of eye contact, attunement to self and other, autonomic arousal, internal sense of safety or danger. Interpersonal neurobiology offers therapists a new window into how we might change the dance without the need to name or interpret these moments. Utilizing insights gleaned from the field of interpersonal neurobiology and from Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, a body-centered talking therapy for attachment and trauma, we can take learn to more easily facilitate moments of attunement and connection even with our most challenging clients. visit www.SOSWorkshops.ca for details.
