Every Canadian out there cares for a child with special needs or knows a neighbour, co-worker, aunt, nephew, or friend who does. It’s never easy to parent a child at the best of times. More difficulties arise when families with challenges are isolated, when services aren’t available, or when they can’t find the resources they need to help their children be healthy. In June of 2003, Groundwork Press was formed to respond to the needs of thousands of parents struggling to understand and assist their children with special needs. In the early 1990s, SNAP published a book about Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) that was specifically designed for caregivers of these children. Now into its third printing, Living with FASD: A Guide for Parents has sold close to 50,000 copies! Building on that success, SNAP created Groundwork Press. As the founding organization of Groundwork Press, SNAP has a 17-year history of supporting parents through the steps and stages of caring for their children who have special needs.
