Professor Edward Shorter holds the Hannah Chair in the History of Medicine. Working within U of T’s Joint Centre for Bioethics and Department of Family and Community Medicine, Shorter has research and written extensively about the history of psychosomatic illness. He received the Jason A. Hannah Medal of the Royal Society of Canada for his book, A History of Psychiatry .
