The Power and Focus of Brainspotting

David Grand, PhD
presented by Leading Edge Seminars

St Lawrence Centre for the Arts (Jane Mallett Theatre)

“David Grand is one of the most important and effective psychological trauma therapists now practicing, and his development of Brainspotting is a very important leap forward in helping people resolve trauma. Brainspotting is a remarkable, sophisticated, flexible addition to the therapeutic toolkit of any psychotherapist.” Norman Doidge, MD (author of The Brain That Changes Itself and The Brain’s Way of Healing)

Brainspotting (BSP) is a relational, brain-body-mindfulness based psychotherapy. It utilizes the Dual Attunenment Frame to combine relational and neurobiological attunement to optimize client processing. BSP is unique as a technical therapy as primary attention is given to the healing power of the relationship. It is a simultaneous form of diagnosis and treatment. It is highly adaptable and can be easily integrated with other psychotherapy modalities.

In this workshop, you will learn about Brainspotting and how it works.

BSP taps into and harnesses the body’s natural self-scanning and self-healing abilities. It can also be used to find and strengthen our natural resources and resilience. By working mindfully with the relationship between eye gaze and subcortical activity, BSP helps your clients focus and process the deep brain sources of emotional/body pain, trauma, dissociation and other somatic and performance problems.

You will learn how relevant eye positions, called Brainspots, can be used to locate and access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain. You will also learn how to set up the formation of the Dual Attunement Frame in order to create the optimal environment for healing.

You Will Learn:

• The three types of Brainspots: Outside Window, Inside Window and Gazespotting
• The set up process to guide the formation of the Dual Attunement Frame
• How to get into the “tail of the comet” to follow the client’s lead
• How to work with complex trauma and dissociative disorders
• How to work with clients with somatic issues
• How to apply Brainspotting to performance and creativity issues
