National Data Bank for Rheumatic Diseases

"With great empathy and insight into the prejudices that many patients encounter from physicians and caretakers, as well as their own resistance to exercise and social activities, [Deborah] Barrett urges readers to direct their care through recording patterns that emerge in the up-and-down cycle typical of many chronic pain sufferers.... Her encyclopedic guide to leading a satisfying life will help readers tame what she calls 'pain's cruel whims.'"

"Deborah Barrett has written an insightful book about an exceedingly common condition—chronic pain. Barrett masterfully tackles our cultural dichotomy of mind and body and puts them effortlessly under one roof, giving it the name paintracking. This book is written in lucid language that captures the essence of patient experiences with a persistent pain state while providing invaluable information with regard to therapeutics and the daunting journey of pain patients in search of answers. A must-read for patients and clinicians alike."
