Are you aware of the impact of current legislation on social work practice? Social workers in all fields of practice are faced with complex and overlapping legislation.

"A Legal Guide for Social Workers", 3rd Edition, has just been published. This highly informative 190- page, updated and expanded Guide is tailored specifically to social work practice. Nowhere else will you find a comprehensive guide to legal issues written for and about social workers and the law in Ontario.

The Guide is the result of Professor Robert Solomon's exhaustive research and analysis of essential legal issues of importance to social workers today. This edition covers legislative changes since the publication of the Second Edition in 2009, as well as emerging issues of specific concern to social workers. A new section on Mental Health, Criminal Justice and Civil Commitment has been added.

The Guide covers topics such as: Consent, Substitute Consent, and End-of-Life Decision-Making; Liability in Negligence; Mental Health, Criminal Justice, and Civil Commitment; Record-Keeping, Confidentiality, and Disclosure.

About the Author:

Professor Robert Solomon has been engaged in research and teaching on alcohol and drug policy, and tort, criminal and health law for over 40 years. He received the University of Western Ontario Prize for Teaching Excellence in 1981, several other University teaching honours, and the Ontario Confederation of Faculty Associations Award in Teaching Excellence in 1986. More recently, Professor Solomon was a finalist in TVO’s 2009 Ontario’s Best Lecture Competition.
