Each drawing in the book represents some form taken from the basic geometry of the world around us. You may see a crab, a mask, jewels or explosions...
Whatever you come up with, we have found that watercolors, pencil crayons and most other drawing mediums work to create a wonderful effect as you work through the book. --- from the publisher About the Artist: Keith Watts is from the great Tsimshian nation of Northwest BC. He comes from the Gitxsan Carrier band located in the lands around the village of Hazelton, BC. He is from the Wolf tribe, which is a part of the Bear Clan. When he was a small boy, Keith would sit in his classroom at school, dreamily staring out of the window at the fomridable Roche de Boule mountain range, doodling in his schoolbooks and creating his own version of the sky, clouds, tress and the mountains he was gazing at. As a young teenager he found he loved the symmetry and simplicity of geometry and began experimenting with geometric patterns, starting with a simple trapezoid and making fantastical shapes to impress his friends! He settled in Prince Ruper in the mid 80's and began using pencil and paper to geometrically design the alien look faces that he imagined. He created hundreds of different face designs, all based on simple geometric patterns. He soon discovered that he could translate his interpretation of what he saw in the world around him into complicated geometric drawings. Keith continues to follow his passion, creating imaginative drawings with India ink on paper that link traditional First Nations design basics with his fresh, insightful technique. Keith hopes you will have as much fun with his work as he had drawing it!!! |
