Description Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is an evidence-based group therapy for preventing depressive relapse. It also reduces acute depression, anxiety and stress.
About the Presenter:
Andrea Alvarez is an assistant professor with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University. She is the Director of Education and Research and an outpatient psychiatrist at the Canadian Mental Health Association Waterloo Wellington Region. She is also a consultant psychiatrist for the Bariatric Program in Guelph General Hospital.
Blakie Sahay is the lead at the Centre’s Guelph satellite location where she facilitates both MBCT and MBSR group as well as beginner’s mindfulness workshops and silent retreats. She also facilitates online MBCT groups with the Centre. She has worked in mental health for over 13 years. and has additional training in CBT having taught a CBT for Anxiety group for 6 years. She is a certified MBCT facilitator and now mentors new MBCT facilitators. Blakie also has a private OT practice supporting Canadian veterans with mental health and addictions challenges and assisting people with successful return to work plans.
