Mr. Eddy will be presenting an overview of the different types of personalities seen in high conflict divorce and family violence situations.
He will outline how people with personality disorders or traits often try to assert power and control over those around them, especially their partners and children. Family conflict dynamics will be addressed, including how to assess for the possibility of abuse, power and control dynamics and how these individuals involve their children in their high-conflict disputes.
Mr. Eddy will address the best interest of the children involved in these situations including the four key skills in managing the personality-disordered parent with empathy, attention and respect, while dealing with contradictory information, setting limits and educating them about consequences.
The second day of the workshop will focus on learning new ways to manage high-conflict personalities in divorce and family violence. By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to successfully manage high conflict clients in litigation, mediation and collaborative divorce through the following techniques:
Tools to better identify abuse
Connecting with Empathy, Attention and Respect (EAR)
Analyzing options, choices and proposals
Responding to hostile communications (BIFF Responses)
Setting Limits on high-conflict behavior
