Dr. Alter received her doctorate from the University of Florida in 1981 and has been working in Toronto as a child clinical psychologist ever since. She has been a consultant for The Hincks-Dellcrest Centre and Blue Hills Academy for over 30 years, has taught at York University, and conducted fetal alcohol syndrome assessments for Anishnawbe Health Toronto. She is the author of Anxiety and the Gift of Imagination, which stems from over 25 years of private practice work with children and adolescents, as well as the Anxiety Workbook for Kids with Crystal Clarke. She is a trustee with Strong Minds, Strong Kids/ Psychology Canada and author of Stress Lessons and From Stressed Out to Chilled Out. She has made numerous television and radio appearances, and given over a hundred talks to community groups of parents, educators, and mental health workers in both Canada and the U.S.
