Toronto Institute for Contemporary Psychoanalysis
This is a clinically-focused program for those desiring to learn the basic principles and applications of psychoanalytic therapy. This program will also help prepare those interested in applying to the four-year Psychoanalytic Training Program at the Toronto Institute for Contemporary Psychoanalysis who do not have training in psychoanalytic therapy.
The program consists of weekly two-hour seminars divided into five six-session modules.
A six-session module that introduces the psychoanalytic frame of reference including the analytic attitude, and the concepts of development; motivations; drives; object relations; the self; and relationality.
A six-session module that encompasses the notion of the unconscious (an overview and evolution of the concept as it relates to technique); the idea of change as working through; the concepts of transference and counter-transference and how they are understood and appear in the clinical process.
A six-session module devoted to process and modes of listening (what one listens “for”); empathy and mentalization; and the relational elements in the exchange.
Modules 4 and 5:
Two six-session modules, each with a senior clinician, in which participants present cases and clinical process is discussed. The modules will also include clinical presentations by the instructor of his/her own case material.
$2,000 (which includes Guest Status in the Toronto Society for Contemporary Psychoanalysis for the duration of the Program.)
