Essential theory and practical skills for child-focused family therapy

Working with children in the context of their family has unique benefits. This training will present the rationale for child-focused family sessions. It will outline the major models and essential skills of family therapy.

Participants will understand the benefits of conducting sessions with all family members. Be able to identify the different theoretical models of family therapy and implement core therapeutic skills in family therapy. Identify common challenges in family therapy and strategies to overcome them. The facilitators will also illustrate how to effectively contract and set goals with families.

Please note: This training is part of the Certificate in essential skills for assessing and treating children and families, however, this webinar can be register in as a stand-alone training.

About the Presenters:

Liana Lowenstein, MSW, RSW, CPT-S is a Registered clinical Social Worker, Certified Play Therapist-Supervisor, and Certified TF-CBT Therapist who has been working with children and their families since 1988. She presents training across North America and abroad. She provides clinical supervision to mental health practitioners, runs a play-therapy internship program, and consults to several mental health agencies. She has authored numerous best-selling books including: Paper Dolls and Paper Airplanes: Therapeutic Exercises for Sexually Traumatized Children; Creative Interventions for Bereaved Children; Creative Interventions for Children of Divorce; Creative CBT Interventions for Children with Anxiety; and Cory Helps Kids Cope with Sexual Abuse. She is a winner of the Monica Herbert award for outstanding contribution to play therapy in Canada.

Greg Lubimiv, MSW, CPT-S, has over 30 years of experience in children's mental health and child welfare where he has been involved as a clinician, trainer and administrator. Greg has specialized in the field of play therapy, parenting and family therapy and has authored a number of books and articles on mental health topics. Greg graduated with his Master of Social Work from the University of Toronto. He is a certified play therapist and supervisor. He is the recipient of several awards: Monica Herbert Award for contributions to the field of Play Therapy, Liz Manson Award for contributions to the field of children's mental health, Base Commander's Commendation for services to military families, and Queen's Jubilee Medal for contributions to the treatment of military children and families. Greg is well known as a passionate and knowledgeable presenter with a focus on making content concrete, practical and fun.
