tps&i Extension Course Two - Discussing Netflix from a Psychoanalytic Perspective

Course Coordinator: Barbara Burrows
presented by tps&i

Sunday, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm: September 25, October 30, November 27, 2022; January 29, February 26, March 26, 2023. (6 meetings)
Fee: No charge

Deadline for registration is September 18, 2022.
Preregistration is required.

** DISTANCE PARTICIPATION ONLY – This course will be conducted online.

In this series of six meetings, participants will meet on zoom to discuss various Netflix series from a psychoanalytic perspective. This will be an opportunity to think as a group about these productions, thus enriching our appreciation of their historical and current cultural manifestations. The first discussion on Sept 25/22 will discuss “March Comes in Like a Lion”. Watch as much as you have time for. Group member Lorin Schwarz offered this suggestion and will kick off the discussion of this Japanese animated series. Oct 30/22, we will watch Gabriela Poggi’s suggestion “The Lost Daughter” and she will kick off the discussion.

The coordinator, in consultation with the participants, will select future choices. Please feel free to send your suggestions to [email protected]

There is no charge and no obligation to attend all the meetings, but each person must register to get the zoom link. Everyone will be informed what the title of the next series will be ahead of time.
Learning Objectives:

At the end of the course the participants will be able to:

1. Have a psychoanalytic appreciation of the themes and dynamics of a number of culturally important series on Netflix.
2. Develop their skills in thinking and speaking psychoanalytically.
3. Have the satisfaction of having discussed aspects of contemporary culture from a psychoanalytic point of view.
