tps&i Scientific Meeting - The Unrepresented in the Treatment of an Adult-Gifted-Child

Presenter: Dan Traub-Werner, MD, FRCP (Psych)
presented by tps&i

Wednesday, April 14, 2021: 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

TPS Scientific Meeting: Open to Members, Affiliates/Guests, TIP Candidates, ATPPP Trainees, CPS Members, and Sponsored Guests only.

** DISTANCE PARTICIPATION ONLY - This Scientific Meeting is available via Zoom meeting only. Preregistration is required. Please RSVP via email at [email protected] Please note that registration closes 48 hours prior to the meeting date.

The presentation discusses the findings of a three-year analysis followed by a four-year weekly virtual follow-up of a 30-year-old man. He was a talented musician well known in his field of scientific endeavor but hampered by his inability for imagination, fantasy and affect representation. The separation from the analyst precipitated a life-threatening Eating Disorder. The ED hid an un-acknowledged negative transference that proved impossible to analyze within the virtual frame. The referral to another analyst resulted in a successful termination.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this presentation participants will be able:

To identify possible limitations of the virtual frame.
To differentiate between represented and unrepresented states.
To understand the limitations of the treatment of unrepresented states.
