The Legacy of Parentbooks

When Caversham opened on Harbord Street in 1989, Parentbooks had been down the road three years already at 201 Harbord. Now, 35 years on, they've taken the decision to retire. We'd happily co-existed, and our selection of Special Needs, Parenting, Pregnancy, Birth & Postpartum, and Education didn't need developing so much — but without them, and with their blessing, we've taken on nearly all of their distributed publishers, and are welcoming a great many new customers to our shop. Though we've done much to re-arrange and align things, please do tell us if you don't see something, or have recommendations! We're so very humbled by the incredible work that Patti, Bill, Maureen, and Leslie had done to build such an unparalleled and iconic independent bookshop.

September New Arrivals

Here we have a list that will grow throughout the the month as new books, new editions, and softcover reissues abound.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

While Manitoba, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island have made this first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation a statutory holiday, Ontario has not, and we feel we are more useful open until our province makes it official. We are in a position to feature resources written by and about those with lived experiences of indigenous people in Canada and elsewhere, and Caversham is marking this day by donating our gross margin on the year's sales of indigenous books to local and national charities.

For now, at least, we'll take the day ON to learn and listen and reflect from the community.

Fernwood Books has shared excerpts from ten of Fernwood's Indigenous Resistance Books.
