About the Author:
Land Wilson was born and raised in Marin County, CA. Throughout his life, Land has been drawn to many different forms of artistic expression. Land enjoyed woodworking as a young boy, theater in high school, arts management in college, internships with the San Francisco Opera Center, art history studies in Paris, and apprenticeships in art restoration. His interest in writing commenced in college and has evolved over the course of a long career in business. Writing has become his favorite form of personal artistic expression.
Growing up in an area known for its strong environmental leadership, he developed a deep appreciation for nature as a child. Land’s motivation for writing Sofia's Dream stemmed from his interest in environmental protection. He wanted to encourage children to love and respect nature in a deep and meaningful way. He had read that viewing the Earth from a distance was an experience that genuinely transforms a person’s thinking about our planet, so as part of his research he interviewed three Apollo astronauts. These impactful interviews ultimately served as his inspiration to write what would one day become Sofia's Dream.
Land’s interests include walking, mountain bike riding, escaping to the beach or the mountains, playing with family and friends, and nurturing his vegetable garden. He lives in San Rafael, California with his wife and two children.
Sue Cornelison grew up in Libertyville, Illinois. As a child, she loved to climb trees, build forts, do gymnastics, but most of all, she LOVED to draw!
After earning her BFA from Drake University in Art Studio and Art Education, she traveled to Florence, Italy to further her art studies at The International School of Studio Arts. She married her husband, Ross, a jazz musician, and together they raised a family of six children. She taught high school art, designed craft projects, cross stitch designs, spun wool, made felted hats, clay pots, carved clay bas relief sculptures, painted portraits, illustrated many book covers, but what she enjoys most of all is writing and illustrating books for children.
For the past twenty years, in her spare time, Sue has enjoyed coaching children. In 1991, she started a competitive trampoline and power tumbling team in St. Charles, Iowa. The team performs for college half time shows and competes in State and National competitions.
Sue and Ross currently reside in a small rural town in Madison County, Iowa, in a century old three-story Victorian home. Ross is turning the old carriage house into her art studio and she can’t wait!
