Yoga therapy offers a truly holistic approach to solving the growing problem of insomnia. In this book expert yoga therapist Lisa Sanfilippo explains how yoga practices can be used to target the underlying issues that inhibit good quality sleep, with immediate results that build over time.

Learn how to work with clients to release tension in the body that builds up during the day making it difficult to sleep at night. Honouring a natural yogic and Ayurvedic approach, and infusing it with modern neuroscience, Lisa also addresses the deeper emotional reasons for not sleeping well and looks at how lifestyle changes can help to achieve better quality rest. With the body-mind connection at its core, this book shows how to support better health holistically to restore balance in each layer of the body.

Reviews:

I highly recommend this important and well-written book. We are experiencing an epidemic of tiredness. This "tired-but-wired" state (in Lisa's succinct description) is a significant cause of depression, fear and anxiety. Rest and release can be wonderful supports. Lisa skilfully offers practical options, guiding the reader through the problems and the possibilities.
— Norman Blair, Senior Yin Yoga Teacher and Teacher Mentor, Author of ‘Brightening Our Inner Skies’

Finally, a book that applies the wisdom and practices of yoga and therapeutic principles to the widespread issues of sleeplessness.

Whether you suffer from insomnia, work with others clinically, or simply know someone who lives with this debilitating condition, they can put aside their sleeping pills and use the strategies Lisa Sanfilippo offers in this book.
— Anodea Judith PhD, author of Wheels of life, Eastern Body-Western Mind, and Chakra Yoga

Lisa has written her life work and generously shared it for the benefit of all. Born of her own interest and need to understand and experience deep, restful sleep, and the obstacles that prevent it, Lisa integrates ancient and modern wisdom in a practical guide to sleep. From yoga asana to neuroanatomy, Lisa distills for the reader the lessons of science and self-care in manner that is useful for psychotherapists, counsellors, and yoga therapists seeking to integrate mind, breath, and body approaches to help themselves and their clients experience the restorative benefits of sleep.
— Lisa Kaley-Isley PhD, E-RYT-500, C-IAYT Founder, Life Tree Yoga with Lisa Director, The Yoga Therapy Clinic Board of Directors, Yogacampus Yoga Therapy Diploma Course

This book is a gift for the yoga teacher, healer or therapist who wants to help others to rest better - especially for those working with pregnant ladies or new mothers. This approach brings in what others forget - that we are spiritual and soulful at our very core, and that healing and wellness must integrate this essential part of ourselves. I love the idea at the heart of this book: that sleeplessness can call us to awaken.
— Erika Tourell, Senior Yoga Teacher and Teacher Trainer, Doula and Mother

The book from Lisa Sanfilippo is a must for people who suffer from insomnia. The author impresses by her profound knowledge about Yoga and sleep disorder. Her book also convinces through the clearly arranged layout, the step by steps explaining the postures and breathing techniques. She also does not miss to explain the deeper causes of sleeplessness.
— Dagmar Härle, Master of Psychotraumatology Yoga Teacher RYT 200 TCTSY Facilitator Practitioner Somatic Experiencing

Lisa has brought in-depth knowledge and experience together in this thorough and accessible work. In an age of chronic tiredness and poor sleep, this is extremely timely. Jam-packed with practical techniques and helpful understanding, this book will support those who are looking to get back on track with their sleep and gain much-needed energy.
— Jillian Lavender & Michael Miller, Co-Founders, London Meditation Centre/ New York Meditation Center

This manual on sleep, insomnia and an approach to helping clients tackle their sleep disturbances is clear, well researched and practical. It is an invaluable resource for clinicians dealing with sleep disturbances and is a good stepping-stone for helping medical professionals to approach sleep problems in an embodied manner. Lisa Sanfillippo incorporates an intuitive sense about the body with well-evidenced therapeutic and scientific knowledge.
— Dr Shivanthi Sathanandan MBBS, Consultant Psychiatrist, Camden and Islington Foundation Trust, National Health Service Practitioner Health Programme UK
