This is a collection of six large works for children's orchestra (horns, pitched and unpitched percussion) with teacher piano accompaniment. The works are original, and in a classical vein. The pieces may be performed by 10 to 30 instrumentalists depending on the availability of children and instruments. The music is composed of short phrases with repetitive parts that easily fall within the range of all young children's abilities. Many of the instruments required to perform the music are frequently found in most schools or can be easily obtained; however, instruments may be added or substituted as deemed necessary and appropriate. Having worked over 20 years as music therapists with classes of a wide variety of young and special needs children, the authors found that the innate musicality living with these children could be further engaged and challenged with larger and more sophisticated orchestral music than the regular classroom program could provide. These orchestral pieces were composed to fill that gap. They offer the children the opportunity to actively play an integral role in making symphonic sounding music. Not only is the music thrilling and emotionally moving, but the children will love the challenge of working and struggling together as a team. Words cannot fully describe the joy and personal benefits that both teacher and student will experience as each section of a piece is mastered. The entire group will experience the thrill of emotional heights not frequently found in young children's music programs. --- from the publisher
