A creative, child-friendly program designed for use with elementary-school children, filled with original exercises to foster healing, self-understanding, and optimal growth. These popular workbooks were created to help children who have experienced trauma. Their design reflects the basic insight that many young children are not verbally oriented and find it hard to communicate what has hurt them. Each workbook provides a friendly but neutral environment, including plenty of space in which to write and draw. The exercises are balanced between left and right brain, thinking and feeling, and follow a therapeutic sequence: creating an alliance, debriefing painful memories, exploring delayed reactions, identifying resources and coping strategies, and integrating the experience. The My Own Thoughts And Feelings (For Girls) workbook is for exploring early symptoms of depression, low self-esteem, family conflict, maladjustment, and nonspecific dysfunction. The My Own Thoughts And Feelings series is suitable for younger children aged 6-10 years old. Wendy Deaton, MFCC, has a counseling practice specializing in families and children. Kendall Johnson is an expert on crisis management and trauma in children, and has authored several books for professional and general readers. In addition to the classics School Crisis Management and Trauma in the Lives of Children, he has written Classroom Crisis, Turning Yourself Around, and Reclaiming Your Future. He has also coauthored several workbooks in Hunter House's Growth and Recovery Outreach Workbooks (GROW) series for helping traumatized children. He teaches at a continuation school in Southern California and is in private practice as a family therapist. |
