Helen Driver, PhD, has been an active member of the board of the Canadian Sleep Society (CSS) for 13 years as well as being the immediate Past President. During her training as a sleep physiologist in South Africa, she developed an interest in women’s sleep research which took her on a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. She trained in clinical sleep medicine in Toronto and Kingston, and is a Diplomate in Sleep Medicine. She currently works at a 6-bed sleep disorders laboratory at the Kingston General Hospital and Queen’s University, Canada.

Raymond Gottschalk, MBChB, FRCPC, FCCP, is a respirologist and is board certified in internal and sleep medicine. He is co-author of the 2005 and 2011 guidelines for Clinical Practice Parameters and Faculty Standards for sleep medicine for the CPSO, an IHF assessor for the CPSO, and co-chair for the fellowship programme in sleep medicine at McMaster University. He has a busy clinical and teaching practice in Hamilton and St. Catharines, Ontario.

Dr. Mohamed R. Goolam Hussain, MBBCh, CCFP, FCFP, is an accomplished family physician and sleep physician in Mississauga, Ontario. His clinical interests encompass sleep disorders and general medicine, and their effect on the social wellbeing of people with sleep disorders. He is the medical director of the Trihospital Sleep Laboratory West in Mississauga, and an assessor of Independent Health Facilities for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. His philanthropic activities include establishing medical services in Africa for children with developmental and intellectual challenges.

Charles M. Morin, PhD, is Professor of Psychology and Director of the Sleep Research Center at Université Laval in Quebec City. He holds a Canada Research Chair on sleep disorders and is Past President of the Canadian Sleep Society. He is Associate Editor for the journals SLEEP and Behavioral Sleep Medicine and serves on several advisory boards including the Behavioral Sleep Medicine Society board of directors and the American Psychiatric Association work group. He has published six books and over 175 research articles and chapters, with a primary focus on psychological and behavioural treatments of insomnia.

Dr. Colin Shapiro, MBBCh, PhD, MRCPsych, FRCPC, has been involved in sleep research for over thirty years. He is the founding chair of the British Sleep Society and of the International Neuropsychiatry Association. He is director of the Sleep and Alertness Clinic, Youthdale Child and Adolescent Sleep Centre (the only dedicated independent Child and Adolescent Sleep Clinic in Canada) and the International Sleep Clinic. For the last two decades he was the senior editor of the Journal of Psychosomatic Research. He has over 300 publications in this field and has published over a dozen books.

Dr. Louis van Zyl, MBChB., M.Med., FRCPC, FCPA, FAPM is Professor of Psychiatry (Emeritus) with Queen’s University, He was Co-Founder & First President of the Canadian Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine, Program Director for Queen’s University Department of Psychiatry Residency Training Program, and has served as examiner on the examination board of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. His work is currently focused on Sleep Medicine. He is based in Toronto.
