This fifth volume in the more focused Innovations in Clinical Practice series addresses several key issues pertaining to mental health and its relationship to physical health and well-being. Innovations in Clinical Practice: Focus on Health & Wellness includes new techniques and ideas for assessment and treatment in such areas as chronic medical illness and quality of life; the psychosocial impact of breast cancer; women's reproductive health; the psychosocial impact of organ failure and transplantation; behavior change with cardiac patients; child and adolescent eating disorders; and sexual abuse of children with disabilities. Other articles address such topics as including a sexual health component in your practice; the disparities in mental health care access between whites and minorities; designing an ethically appropriate professional website; providing mental health services through the Internet; psychotherapist self-care; and mental health services in correctional settings. In addition, this volume provides a number of informal assessment instruments for quality of life, adolescent suicide, stress, and eating disorders in preadolescent girls. Client handouts address coping with serious illness and eating disorders.

Other books in this series are Focus on Violence Treatment & Prevention, Focus on Groups, Couples, & Family Therapy, Focus on Adults, Focus on Children & Adolescents, and Focus on Sexual Health.

"At a time when the biopsychosocial model of practice is ascendant and practitioners and clients alike are aware of the mind-body connection, this volume, with its focus on health and wellness, provides the type of practical, pragmatic, practitioner-friendly information we have come to expect from Innovations in Clinical Practice. From issues of health disparities among minority populations to the evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic medical conditions, from clinician assessment instruments to client handouts, from direct applications to those available online, from concerns about the well-being of our clients to the ethical imperative of our own well-being, this volume provides new materials and reviews relevant information in an integrated manner. Invaluable reading for every practitioner wanting to be up-to-date about issues of health and wellness."
