About the Author: Katie Statman-Weil has worked in the early childhood field for over ten years. She also holds two masters degrees: one in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Early Childhood Education and another in social work. Further, Katie’s clinical expertise is trauma-informed care. Katie has worked as a classroom teacher, a school social worker, and as the executive director of an inclusive nonprofit early childhood center in Portland, Oregon. Katie currently speaks on the topic of early childhood trauma nationally and internationally, while also teaching at Portland State University, where her courses focus on equity and guidance strategies that improve social-emotional development and self-regulation for all learners. In her personal life Katie is a foster parent to children who have experienced abuse and neglect.
